John has done a lot of very cool things in his career, but this definitely ranks close to the top of the list. He performed at a fundraiser for Barack Obama's re-election campaign in Honolulu and got to meet the President after the show.

Singing for the Aina
All you have to do is start a rumor that Jack Johnson might show up and people start throwing down $5000 for a table at the North Shore Community Land Trust's benefit show on Oahu. He did show up...along with some other great names to raise money for a great cause.

There isn't much money on Oahu's Waianae Coast, but supporters of Nanakuli High School definitely make up for it in heart and spirit. John was happy to donate his time to help raise money for the sports and performing arts programs there.

Getting Some Slack on Maui
OK, let's face it. People in Hawaii are pretty slack compared to those elsewhere in the world, but nowhere like at the Maui Slack Key Festival. Some of the greatest slack key guitar players on the planet gathered here for an afternoon of good music and very good times.

Kokua for Japan
In Hawaiian, Kokua means to help or cooperate, and at this particular event, that was an understatement. So many big names turned out to raise money for Japan that people in Hawaii were calling it the concert of the year.

Smokin' in Da Boyz Room
Starting fires, playing with knives and inviting long haired musicians to rock the house aren't usually the types of activities you'd find at a typical school. That's why we love Kauai. John joined Samoan fire knife dancers for cultural presentations at 5 Kauai schools before the Coconut Festival.

Big Sur Spirit Garden
If you feel the need to get back to the garden, as Joni Mitchell wrote, then Big Sur is the place to go. The counter culture is alive and well and nestled in the mountains of this California seaside community and John loved every minute of it.
